The hobbit house near Stamford in Rutland — view 2

The story

Escape to a world of organic wonder.

The hut was built in Lithuania from solid timber, then settled into a quiet corner of the Rutland countryside near Stamford. It is fully insulated and heated, so it is every bit as snug in February as it is in July — and there is a genuine wow moment the second you step in under the curve of the roof.

Inside: a double bed, a kitchen area for self-catering and your own bathroom. Outside: a private gated garden, alfresco dining, a BBQ spot and parking at the door.

The setting

Open countryside at the fence line, two dog-friendly village pubs within a stroll, and Stamford, Burghley House, Bourne Woods and Grimsthorpe Castle all close by.

The stay

Timber curves, warm heating, a private garden and a sky full of stars once the sun drops.
